Scalar

Fees

Trading fees on Scalar.

Scalar charges fees at three points: when you trade, when positions settle, and when you withdraw funds to an external wallet.

Fee rates are set by the protocol and may change. Check the app for current rates before trading.

Trading Fees

Every time an order is matched, both the buyer and seller pay a small fee. Fees follow a maker/taker model:

RoleDescription
MakerYou place a limit order that rests on the book
TakerYou place an order that matches an existing resting order

Maker fees are typically lower than taker fees to incentivize liquidity.

Trade fees are capped at 5% of notional value per side. Notional value = execution price x number of contracts.

When are trading fees charged?

Fees are deducted from your balance at the moment the trade executes. They appear in your account activity history.

Settlement Fees

When a market resolves and your position is settled, a small per-contract fee is deducted from your payout.

  • The fee is proportional to your position size (number of contracts held).
  • It is only charged when settlement occurs, not before.
  • If your payout would be less than the settlement fee, the transaction will revert and no fee is taken.

Withdrawal Fees

A flat fee is charged when you withdraw funds from your Scalar account to an external wallet.

  • The fee is deducted from the withdrawal amount.
  • Your withdrawal must be larger than the fee to process.
  • Deposits have no fees.

Gas Fees

How gas is handled depends on your account type:

Account TypeGas Handling
Email (embedded wallet)Gas is sponsored by the protocol. You pay nothing extra.
EOA (external wallet)You pay standard network gas fees for onchain actions.

Most trading actions (placing/canceling orders) happen offchain and do not incur gas fees regardless of account type. Gas only applies to deposits, withdrawals, and settlement claims.
